Fast Cars, Fast Food, Fast Lives

I grew up in a culture that worshipped modernism, innovativeness, progress, ‘tear down the old and build a new’; deny the spirit of morning moons for Sunday morning masses, bury the violence of genocide and just keep on keeping on with the Jonses while supporting cultures melting into each other becoming numb, blunted, branded by capitalism.

I check my own history, what my Irish and Italian ancestors left behind to escape war and poverty, travelling to the new; a new they bought into in order to fit in, in order not to face buried trauma of the past. We traded ancestral Mother earth rituals, ceremonies, creations and replaced them with a devotion to white rich pretty people, shiny new things, fast cars, fast food, fast lives.
