We The People Coaching

I am a conflict doula/coach (doula because I believe conflict has the capacity to birth new ways of being with(in) ourselves and with(in) one another), facilitator, trainer and mediator with over 20 years of experience co-creating brave and safe enough spaces for people to grapple and reckon with conflict as a pathway to vision, purpose, action and change.

I am also builder/co builder of We the People Coaching, holding the belief that therapy, mediation, coaching ought to be available/accessible to all.  I believe we are a traumatized species born into a traumatized world; all of our stories different, all of us coming into this world lacking human needs such as community, tender witnessing, meaning and safety, freedom, purpose, community and self-love (to name a few).

We the People Coaching is of and for the people and is founded on the maternal gift economy, a counter culture payment system decreasing the cost of care so coaching/relational healing can reach a wider audience.

The I that I am

First and foremost, I give thanks to my Italian and Irish ancestors, whose struggles  collectively and personally stewarded my journey forward onto this purposeful path of holding, guiding, birthing, coaching individuals, relationships and groups through the labyrinth of conflict.  I also give thanks and praise for my life in Grenada, West Indies (over 30 years) deepening my personal and collective understanding re: the psycho-social-historical narrative as paramount to understanding ourselves and others; a crucial and tender third space within the coaching process.

I am a board certified trauma-informed psychosynthesis coach, serving in the areas of personal and interpersonal relationships, anti-racism/oppression and life transitions.   I hold a Masters in Adult Education and am a certified facilitator with the Compassionate Listening Project, Dialogue for Peaceful Change and Narrative 4. I am a nonviolent communication practitioner and lifelong learner presently learning alongside Miki Kashtan and the Nonviolent Global Liberation community and I am a recent trainee with Linda Thai in the field of Somatic embodied coaching.

For over 15 years I worked at the Coady International Institute facilitating leadership and conflict transformation programs with community leaders throughout the world, while also co-founding The Grenada Listening Project and more recently collaboratively growing The People’s Listening Project; both, grass roots community groups going to the streets, parks, malls and other public spaces to listen/connect with people as pathways to widening circles of trust, belonging and dignity; listen across differences, tend collective grief and build beloved community.

My Approach

I carry a deep rootedness in transformative learning and community practice. I believe in the creative force of nonviolent conflict for personal and social change while centering and honouring lived experience. I invite folks to reflect on and work towards transforming relationships with self, others while holding the third space of conscious and unconscious social/systemic narratives while focusing on compassionate communication, conflict analysis skills, tools, practices and the creative arts.

I ground myself in the practices of Psychosynthesis, a spiritually oriented (however one defines spirit) psychological practice that sees humans/humanity in our wholeness – our woundedness (personal and collective), our day to day lives and within our deepest spiritual truths.  I help folks become aware of subpersonalities (subs)/parts living within protecting and managing our lives in order to keep us safe but who also may be interfering with our capacity to be in conflict, to voice boundaries, to understand the underlying needs/wants/values of ourselves and others. These subs/parts may be doing their work so well ie: protecting us from past (childhood/ancestral/social/systemic) wounds resulting in internal conflict, interfering with the unearthing of what is ours to do with this one precious life in this one precious body. I work with folks to uncover, unravel, honour and integrate these beautiful monsters/loyal soldiers (protector parts/subs) through creative embodied exercises and empathic needs-based listening as pathways to creating purpose, choice and action.

I support inner work for healthy relationships as a means of empowering the outer work of growing trust, connection, curiosity, belonging, and dignity (personally and collectively);  pathways I believe to  growing justice, within systems made up of people, made up of relationships.

My Offerings

In person, by phone or on Zoom I offer one on one sessions. This could look like:

Payment / Maternal Gift Economy

For me, the purpose of experimenting with the maternal gift economy is to champion counter-cultural payment systems in order to decrease the cost of care so coaching/mediation/therapeutic processes can reach a wider audience. The choice of fees depends on your income and free will. The idea behind this system is to recognize we all have different current financial situations, and thus finding flexibility so that your financial contribution fits your financial situation. This involves each person discerning for themselves how much to give.  For some this may be challenging and therefor I offer support re: clear financial guidelines in the form of standard and community building pricing. I invite everyone to exercise as much choice as is within capacity.

Below are standard and community building costs:

$120 – 1 session (an hour) (This price helps sustain mutual financial needs between coach and client and provide accessibility for others)

  • $150 – 1 session (an hour) (this price helps sustain mutual needs as well as contribute to  community building re: The People’s Listening Project and We The People Coaching.

$330 – bundle of 3 sessions (This price helps sustain mutual financial needs between coach and client and provide accessibility for others)

  • $380 –  (this price helps sustain mutual needs as well as contribute to  community building re: The People’s Listening Project and We The People Coaching.

$570 – bundle of 5 sessions (This price helps sustain mutual financial needs between coach and client and provide accessibility for others)

  • $ 620 – (this price helps sustain mutual needs as well as contribute to community building re: The People’s Listening Project and We The People Coaching.

These are standard and community building costs to help folks discern.  If the above options are a barrier for you and you would like to contribute a different amount, please choose the amount you can give.

“The Maternal Gift Economy is what happens when we organize human life from the biological reality of being a mothering species: all of us are alive because someone else gave to us unconditionally when we were fully dependent on others to care for our needs unilaterally. When we do that, we function in a need-satisfying economy where we share resources as gifts oriented to needs based on willingness and capacity, which continues to be the bedrock of what sustains human life even to this day, well beyond caring for infants.” Miki Kashtan
